About Mercury

The Mercury Comet premiered in 1960 as a compact sedan with a twist of luxury but would eventually be offered up as a classy midsize, as well. The Comet would go on to become a hit due in large part to its success on the racing circuit. Mercury drew even more attention towards the end of the decade when it introduced the Cougar in 1967. Based on the Mustang but with a longer wheelbase and a pronounced front-end grille, the Cougar combined performance elements with the marque's penchant for upscale presence. During the 1970s the oil crisis took center-stage, with Mercury producing smaller, fuel-efficient machines such as the Bobcat and the Capri in order to cope with the climate. The 80s provided a rebound, however, with the Taurus-inspired Sable leading the way.

One of the crown jewels in the Ford kingdom, Mercury has established its own monarchy when it comes to drivers who expect a little more class, a little more detail, and reliable performance. Mercury has maintained its presence on the street and on the market by continuously raising its game and allowing their creativity to merge with the driver's. Goodbye Mercury! The Last Grand Marquis Rolled Off the Line
About mercury News

Although FoMoCo officially announced the cease of the Mercury line back in June 2011, the last Mercury has left Ford's plant in St. Thomas, Ontario just a few days ago. Initially the final Mercury was planned to be completed by the new year, but heavy snowstorms put off production terms. The Grand Marquis has been produced at the St. Thomas plant for 25 years. Since the model's debut in 1938, its sales volumes have exceeded 21 million units. According to Ford's spokesperson Marcey Evans, the automaker is eliminating Mercury to concentrate on two main branches, Ford and Lincoln. With this step Ford has given up its another attempt to cater for every purse and purpose by splitting the lineup into multiple brands. The other domestic automotive movers and shakers, GM and Chrysler, have also tried to capture different customer groups and many of their entries failed to succeed, too. Thus, Chrysler has killed Eagle and Plymouth, while GM has cast off Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer, Saab and Oldsmobile.

Ford Brings Mercury Cougar Back to Life
mercury news

Lincoln-Mercury has recently made a statement that the 2011 Mercury Cougar will go into production starting September 2011. Ford Motor Company plans to add fuel to the fire of pony car wars once again and gain full authority in the segment by reviving Mercury Cougar. Based on the S197 Ford Mustang D2C platform, the vehicle will be produced at the Auto Alliance International plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. There will be three engine choices offered for the all-new Mercury Cougar. The base model will be equipped with Ford's new Duratec 3.7-liter V6 engine producing 305 horsepower. The fuel economy will be estimated 19 mpg in the city and 30 mph on the highway. Customers, who want to experience more power can opt for the 3.5-liter direct-injected, twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 rated at 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft. of torque. This powerunit can be found in the new 2011 Ford Taurus Police Interceptor. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. Another engine option is a 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8 engine, which could have also be seen under the hood of the 2011 Ford Mustang. It puts out respectable 412 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, the powerunit will deliver up to an estimated 17/25 mpg city/highway. The new Mercury Cougar will feature the Electric Power Assist Steering system, large four-wheel ABS disk brakes, modified underbody shields, and improved front fascia for better aerodynamics. The vehicle will be available in V6 Coupe, V6 Premium, V6 XR7 Coupe, V6 XR7 Premium, XR7 GT, XR7 GT Premium trims.

The wing looks good on the car, and the brake light works fine, and the color matched perfectly. The service took longer than it should have.
